This workshop focuses on strengthening Tier 1 math instruction by making abstract concepts concrete. With a focus on Recommendation 3 from the What Works Clearing House Practice Guide 26 (2021), participants will learn practical, evidence-based strategies for explicitly teaching students how to use manipulatives and visual models to build deep mathematical understanding.

Building a strong foundation in literacy requires a well-thought-out roadmap grounded in evidence-based practices, explicit instruction, consistency, and meaningful engagement with language. As educators, it is essential that we create daily opportunities for students to make connections between letters, sounds, words, and meaning. Through intentional teaching and structured literacy experiences, students develop the foundational skills necessary for long-term reading success.Our goal is to support students in mastering phonological awareness, language acquisition, reading fluency, and reading comprehension while building confidence as communicators and learners. Effective literacy instruction goes beyond teaching students how to read; it helps them understand language, think critically, express ideas clearly, and engage with the world around them.Within both classroom and resource settings, small daily habits can have a powerful impact on literacy growth. Reading aloud, engaging in meaningful conversations, exploring sounds and vocabulary, and providing regular opportunities for writing all contribute to stronger literacy development over time. When these practices are implemented consistently and intentionally, students are better equipped to become confident, capable, and lifelong readers.Together, we will explore practical, evidence-based strategies that help students build strong literacy foundations, develop confidence, and become successful, engaged readers and writers from the very start.

These activities are designed to promote curiosity, mindfulness, and writing through meaningful connections with nature, benefiting both students and educators.Through intentional exploration, observation, and journaling, students will learn how to document their discoveries, reflect on their experiences, and engage in thoughtful discussions. In this hands-on workshop, teachers will explore classroom-ready examples that help students reason, justify, and reflect on their learning. We’ll look at how rich tasks can be used in everyday instruction, as well as how tasks that develop the C1 competency can help students prepare for summative C2 assessments. Participants will also have time to work directly with selected examples and consider how they could be adapted for their own classrooms. We’ll also explore practical strategies for creating rich tasks using existing materials, helping reduce prep time without compromising quality. Whether you’re new to rich tasks or looking to expand your toolkit, this session offers concrete steps for making critical thinking a natural part of your math classroom.

Building a strong foundation in literacy requires a well-thought-out roadmap grounded in evidence-based practices, explicit instruction, consistency, and meaningful engagement with language. As educators, it is essential that we create daily opportunities for students to make connections between letters, sounds, words, and meaning. Through intentional teaching and structured literacy experiences, students develop the foundational skills necessary for long-term reading success.Our goal is to support students in mastering phonological awareness, language acquisition, reading fluency, and reading comprehension while building confidence as communicators and learners. Effective literacy instruction goes beyond teaching students how to read; it helps them understand language, think critically, express ideas clearly, and engage with the world around them.Within both classroom and resource settings, small daily habits can have a powerful impact on literacy growth. Secondary Math: Whole-Class Situational Problems

This workshop introduces a new style of situational problem designed to get students up, thinking, and engaging with each other’s work. These whole-class tasks feature shared goals or constraints that encourage collaboration while preventing copying, creating a space for meaningful mathematical discussion and problem-solving. Students typically work bell to bell with high levels of focus and participation. In this session, we’ll explore the tasks already available, preview ones currently in development, and offer frameworks for designing your own. Participants will also have the opportunity to experience one of these problems firsthand, thereby gaining a better understanding of how they unfold in real time.
