Critical AI Literacy and Environmental Sustainability

This workshop addresses the technical, ethical, and environmental dimensions of Artificial Intelligence. Educators will examine the fundamentals of how AI works, the impact of societal bias in data, and the importance of using objective language when discussing automated systems. The session also investigates the environmental footprint of generative AI and introduces classroom resources, including a school digital audit and five ready-to-teach lessons, to help students analyze and discuss sustainable technology policies.

Designed for teachers looking to incorporate digital literacy into their current practice, this workshop walks through the fundamentals of computational thinking using Scratch. We will build sample projects together and review the Experience CS lesson framework, which supports teachers of all technical backgrounds. The session concludes with a breakdown of how these resources map to the Quebec elementary curriculum to ensure seamless classroom integration.

Supporting Learners, Together! Leveraging Alloprof for Student Autonomy and Success

In an evolving educational landscape, educational goals remain constant: developing a world where each student takes charge of their learning with confidence. In this session, attendees will be introduced to the Alloprof platform, a free partner in the Quebec education ecosystem, designed to empower students through trusted academic support, fully in line with the Quebec Education Program. This presentation will demonstrate how educators can integrate these resources to provide continual support both inside and outside the classroom. By providing educators with practical strategies for differentiated instruction and student motivation, we can work together to ensure no student feels "stuck". Together, let's foster a world where every learner has the tools to succeed.

Engaging students using physical computing and python programming

In this workshop participants will learn how to code a simple physical computing setup on a Raspberry Pi using motors, lights, etc. and python programming language.  It will be an opportunity to have a hands-on experience with the equipment and practice a coding exercise which you could then adapt or use on your equipment back at your school.

This workshop will be aimed at beginners and teachers who may be interested in this topic but may not know how to get started or how to incorporate physical computing using a Raspberry Pi computer.

This interactive session explores how secondary educators can apply Science of Reading principles through practical, evidence-based strategies that support multisyllabic word reading, Tier 2 vocabulary development, fluency, comprehension, and disciplinary literacy. Participants will engage with classroom-ready routines, including vocabulary instruction and the "Get-the-Gist" strategy, to strengthen literacy outcomes and student understanding across the curriculum.
