This workshop focuses on strengthening Tier 1 math instruction by integrating 6 teaching Recommendations outlined in the What Works Clearing House Practice Guide 26 (2021), with an emphasis on the development of a key elementary concept across cycles. Participants will learn practical, evidence-based strategies for explicitly teaching mathematics.

Engaging students using physical computing and python programming

In this workshop participants will learn how to code a simple physical computing setup on a Raspberry Pi using motors, lights, etc. and python programming language.  It will be an opportunity to have a hands-on experience with the equipment and practice a coding exercise which you could then adapt or use on your equipment back at your school.

This workshop will be aimed at beginners and teachers who may be interested in this topic but may not know how to get started or how to incorporate physical computing using a Raspberry Pi computer.

This session is designed to broaden your pedagogical toolkit by highlighting a wide range of high-quality resources in both English and French, for every level from Kindergarten to Grade 11. After a brief introduction to your school library and showing you how to access their collection online, I'll introduce you to a number of quality book and video resources available online for educators, such as ACF/Criterion, Biblius, Curio, NFB and more.
